THEORETICAL PROJECT FOR Scenic DESIGN COURSE | UMBC FALL 2018
My vision for this design was an abandoned factory, which related to the idea of the “political machine” and the cyclical nature of corrupt politicians. The rust and other hallmarks of abandoned industry align with the themes of “shit” and other intentionally disgusting elements of the play. I wanted to have a wide range of textures to create a high degree of visual interest, and various surfaces and levels to not only help in portraying the many locations in the play, but to also support physical comedy and allow the actors to use the set as a tool to enhance absurdist movement.
